Contained in some instructions given by Joseph Smith to those of Ramus, Illinois in 1843, it is said that “[in] the celestial glory there are three heavens or degrees” and that “in order to obtain the highest, a man must enter into this order of the priesthood [meaning the new and everlasting covenant of marriage]” (Doctrine & Covenants 131:1–2).
This scripture puts increased emphasis and importance on the role of marriage in Latter-day Saint theology. What does it mean for us that marriage is a part of our justification, sanctification, and ultimately our exaltation (see #73 ETERNAL MARRIAGE - THE NEW AND EVERLASTING COVENANT and #74 ETERNAL FAMILY)?
