Latter-day Saints know that they can have spiritual gifts (see #79 SPIRITUAL GIFTS. . .ENLIGHTENED SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING) and that they are encouraged to eagerly and earnestly seek these gifts (see #80 WE ARE ENCOURAGED TO ‘SEEK’ AND ‘COVET’ THE BEST SPIRITUAL GIFTS). The final facet of the doctrine of spiritual gifts is that our spiritual gifts can be multiplied.
A revelation given in Doctrine & Covenants 82 explains that Latter-day Saints are “to be equal, or in other words, [we] are to have equal claims on the properties, for the benefit of managing the concerns of [our] stewardships, every man according to his wants and his needs, inasmuch as his wants are just—and all this for the benefit of the church of the living God, that every man may improve upon his talent, that every man may gain other talents, yea, even an hundred fold, to be cast into the Lord’s storehouse, to become the common property of the whole church—every man seeking the interest of his neighbor, and doing all things with an eye single to the glory of God” (Doctrine & Covenants 82:17–18).
Not only do we get spiritual gifts naturally, but we can be given more spiritual gifts to correct for our weaknesses (Ether 12:27). We can continue to multiply these gifts and talents until we are made whole, even as our Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ are whole (3 Nephi 12:48).
