The Book of Mormon Witnesses Never Denied Their Testimony

The Book of Mormon witnesses, all 32 of them, are powerful evidence for the Book of Mormon’s authenticity. Their strength gains added meaning when we recognize that none of the witnesses denied their testimony or recanted it.

Each of these individuals left accounts of their experiences and, through many years of historical investigation, there has been no evidence uncovered that they recanted their testimonies. What’s more, many of these witnesses were at one point disillusioned from Joseph Smith and the Church and still did not deny their experiences with the plates or the angel. The testimony of the three witnesses and informal witnesses like Luke Johnson, Mary Whitmer, and Harrison Burgess confirm that there was a divine agency behind the creation of the Book of Mormon. The testimony of the others brushes against skepticism that the more “visionary” testimonies could be mere hallucinations or delusions.

The variety of their experiences as well as their refusal to recant help to solidify the Witnesses’ experiences as remarkable evidence for the Book of Mormon’s authenticity.
