Since the 1980s, the Book of Mormon has carried the subtitle Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Perhaps the single most shocking and wonderful aspect of the Book of Mormon’s witness of the Savior is that he came to visit peoples located somewhere on the North or South American Continent. This ministry, as recorded in 3 Nephi 11–28, has been described as the Book of Mormon’s “crowning event.”
During His visit, the Savior taught a version of His Sermon on the Mount (called by one scholar Christ’s Sermon at the Temple)20, called twelve disciples to lead His church, taught about the true order of baptism, instituted the sacrament, and more.
The Book of Mormon would not be the Book of Mormon and the Latter Day Saints Movement would not be the Latter Day Saints Movement without the Nephites’ account of the Savior’s American ministry. It is a unique and exclusive gift to believers in the Book of Mormon.
